RAISE FUNDS FOR SCRIPT BY SHOPPING ONLINE

Many thanks to all those who have raised money for SCRIPT by signing up to the easyfundraising site.  Every little helps, so if you haven't already done so, please visit the site.  All you have to do is register with an email and password, identify SCRIPT as the cause you wish to support, and use the site to access your usual online retailers.  For every purchase you make, the retailers will donate up to 15% of the price to SCRIPT, at no extra cost to you.  Participating stores include Amazon, play.com, HMV, NEXT, Debenhams, M&S, DELL, Toys'R'Us, Expedia, John Lewis and Ebay.  The funds raised will enable SCRIPT to continue providing a high level of service to writers in the West Midlands and beyond. INTRODUCTION TO SCREENWRITING COURSE - NEW DATES!

An in-depth, well-resourced course that offers the definitive introduction to the art of writing the short screenplay.

Course leaders are experienced film-makers and teachers specifically trained by Phil Parker to deliver this course. Using team workshops, lectures and discussion groups, the course explores stages of development, script format, genre and how to get your script made into a film.

The course lasts four days, spread over a number of weeks and offering a valuable opportunity for feedback on your own screenplay, with opportunities for rewrites in-between sessions.

Suitable for complete beginners, for those who have some experience of writing, and for anybody who just needs the inspiration to get going! Age 16+

YOUTH MUSIC THEATRE UK: NATIONAL AUDITIONS 2008

PLAYWRIGHTS WANTED

Short plays required for a profit share new writing production early 2008.  Plays must have a city/metropolis theme (preferably London) and be around 15-20 minutes in length.  Plays should be new, unproduced work, and should be exciting in content and imagery.  Stylistic approaches are very much encouraged.

WINDSOR FRINGE MARRIOTT AWARD FOR NEW DRAMA WRITING

The Windsor Fringe is now accepting unpublished one-act plays from amateur playwrights.  Three winning scripts will be selected for performance in October during the 2008 Windsor Fringe Festival.  The winning writer will receive a £500 cash prize. The award is for amateur writers only, and you may enter only one script.  Plays must not have been previously performed, must be the original work of the entrant, no longer than 30 minutes, and suitable for staging in a studio theatre with no more than six actors.  To enter, submit two copies of each script, printed on loose sheets of A4 paper with no binding or stapling.  Pages must be numbers.  No scripts will be returned.  Judging is on a blind submission basis, so the author's name must not appear on the script itself.  The cover page must include the title of the play, the author's name, contact details and signature.  Scripts will not be accepted by email.  Post your scripts to:

BRITISH ANTARCTIC SURVEY ARTISTS AND WRITERS PROGRAMME

The Artists and Writers Programme - sponsored jointly by British Antarctic Survey and Arts Council England - offers two artists and writers each year to spend up to eight weeks in the Antarctic.  Two places are available each year during the Antarctic summer season for participants.  Suitable applicants will already have a serious body of work behind them, which may well have been recognised as such by honours, awards, or appointments to academic or professional positions.  The programme will not accept applications from students.  At present only UK nationals may apply.  For more information, and how to apply, visit the British Antarctic Survey Website:

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: THE SCENE POOL

The Scene Pool is a new initiative from PI Network that has been developed to give theatre makers and writers the space and opportunity to try out work, experiment with a new idea, get feedback or introduce your company to potential producers or venue managers.  This one week event will offer each company taking part a twenty minute programme slot to show their work and get it seen.

PI is an established theatre development organisation that also runs eVolve, a national showcase of theatre graduate performance, and GroundWork, a programme for companies and productions ready for touring and booking opportunities. For more information, visit http://www.perform.tv

24:7 2008: CALL FOR SCRIPTS

Manchester's award-winning, critically acclaimed theatre festival - is now accepting applications for the fifth Festival, running from 21-28 July 2008.  Plays must be under 60 minutes, suitable for a non-theatre space (i.e. simple sets and limited "special effects") and must not have already been part of an advertised tour or theatre season.  We attract funding from The Arts Council, Manchester City Council, and Manchester Airport and have an outstanding reputation for the best new writing and acting talent.

SUBMISSIONS WANTED FOR MENAGERIE THEATRE COMPANY

East Anglia's premiere new writing company is searching for the best new talent in the region.

If you have a script that you would like us to consider for a rehearsed reading or even for the Hotbed Festival 2008 then please send the following:

  • a covering letter
  • a one-page plot synopsis, including character outline
  • a 10-15 page extract from your script
  • a self-addressed stamped envelope

Menagerie is also holding several workshops with award-winning playwright Fraser Grace (currently under commission to the National Theatre).  All writers, however experienced, are welcome to attend, and the course is a good opportunity to get to know Menagerie in advance of commissioning opportunities for Hotbed. RAPID EYE MOVEMENT CALL FOR FILMS

Rapid Eye Movement showcases the very best short films produced in the region, including dramas, animation and documentaries.  The next Rapid Eye Movement screening will take place at Warwick Arts Centre on Saturday 19th January at 2pm.  If you wish to submit a film for inclusion, please send a DVD screener to: John Gore, Warwick Arts Centre, University of Warwick, Coventry, CV4 7AL.

Quality script development is at the heart of the Euroscript programme.  In a series of regular Monday evening workshops, we are here to help you take your individual project to treatment, first draft or further drafts in a flexible time period to suit your needs.  Working with no more than five to six writers to one tutor, you will be given support and detailed feedback to help you create a strong, marketable script.

CD TRILOGY

In 2005, Flight 5065 filled the London Eye with theatre, comedy and music for one spectacular evening, featuring artists such as Damon Albarn, Arthur Smith and the National Theatre alongside 14 specially commissioned new plays inspired by Africa.

MICHAEL BILLINGTON: STATE OF THE NATION

Michael Billington discusses State of the Nation, a challenging look at the vast upheavals that have taken place in Britain and its theatre since the Second World War. State of the Nation is a fascinating exploration of the intimate relationship between British theatre and society since World War Two.  Looking at the work of many of Britain's great playwrights he presents British theatre as a microcosm as the world outside.

NEW ART/SCIENCE PROJECT

7, 8 9 February

Herefordshire based writer Christine Watkins is one of the first recipients of the new Wellcome Trust Arts Award to explore biomedical science through the arts.  She has written the text for a performance project "Mosquito Night" exploring the malaria research work of poet-scientist Ronald Ross and its contemporary resonance.  Christine has been working with parasitologist Dr Angela Priestman, composer Mary Keith and installation artist Emily Campbell to prepare this exciting new piece of work for the Courtyard Centre for the Arts, Hereford.  The installation will be open to the public from 4-9 February, with live performances on 7-9 February.  There will also be a web-based resource pack to accompany the project.
