INCUBATE
A new
two-year development scheme for spoken word artists
in the UK, which offers participants time, space
and inspiration for them to experiment with their
work. Run by Apples & Snakes, BAC, Birmingham
Rep and Contact, Incubate is a paid programme
for six spoken word artists and six artists from
other artforms, who will work together in 'creative
laboratories'. The programme will run from December
2007, and the first stage will involve two-week
stints at BAC, Birmingham Rep and Contact, where
participants will follow the the development process
that each of the venues uses with its artists.
At the end of October 2008 the participants will
make proposals for hiow they would like to use
the second stage, and a number of those will continue
into the next year, culminating in work-in-progress
showcases.

TO PERFORM
A course
for anyone interested in performing what they
write - from poem to monologue to full-sized play.
We will explore the interaction between our writing
voice and our performance voice. We will
look at how we give ideas a communicable action;
how we connect with our audience; how we balance
what we want to say with how we want it said.

Tim Crouch and a smith
Tim
Crouch's plays include winner of a Prix Itali,
My Arm (Faber and Faber), and An
Oak Tree (Oberon), which won a Herald Angel
award. Both plays have run in New York and London.
a smith's
work fuses forms of performance, theatre, installation,
written and visual art. He is a long-term
collaborator with Tim Crouch; working together
on An Oak Tree and on Tim's most recent
play, england.

THEATRE
TRAIL COMPETITION 2008
Drip
Action Theatre is launching its eighth Theatre
Trail competition for 2008. The competition
is looking for one-act plays to be performed as
part of next year's Arundel Festival. The
event is held during the last week in August and
consists of eight short plays performed every
day, throughout the day at eight different locations
all over Arundel.
Drip
Action Theatre is calling on writers of all abilities
and experience to submit new entries for next
year. Plays will be selected for performance
by a panel of three judges, with one overall winner
receiving the Joy Goun Award of £100.
The theme can be any genre so long as it has a
realistic cast number and can be staged simply
with minimum scenery and props. Your play
should be 30-40 minutes in length and suitable
for a daytime performance.

2008: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
HighTide
is now looking for new full-length scripts from
emerging writers for the 2008 Festival, which
takes place between 2-5 May
- Scripts
in performance should be no longer than 1hr
30 mins
- Selected
writers will receive £3000 in respect
of a one-year exclusive option
- Applicants
must be resident in the UK or Ireland
- Writers
may submit one unproduced, unpublished full-length
play. There is no restriction on subject
matter.
- Scripts
must have a title page with author's name, address
and telephone number. Scripts will not be returned.

heart of each script is a writer. The focus
of the course is to enable you the writer to produce
your own work with a heightened sense of what
the writing process actually involves. Recent
graduates have found commissions with BBC North,
as well as having their work showcased at leading
theatres and festivals.
This
intensive one-year programme starts in January
2008. Essentially the time commitment is
one day per week (Mondays) plus one fortnightly
evening session (Tuesdays)

RADIO
WRITING
HISTORIES: A RADIO DRAMA COMPETITION
Crystal
Clear Creators, an arts organisation based in
the East Midlands, is pleased to annouce a new
radio drama competition. The competition
is available to all, and will culminate in the
production of the three winning radio dramas.
Entrants
are invited to write a one page proposal for a
possible radio drama of up to 45 minutes in length
on a historical theme. From the entries,
the best three proposals will be chosen by a panel
of judges. The writers of these winning
proposals will be given the opportunity to develop
the full scripts, whilst receiving mentoring from
experienced writers. The three radio dramas
will then be recorded and produced by Crystal
Clear Creators. We will then boradcast them
via the organisations website, and we will promote
them to local and regional radio stations.

- PILOT
PILOT
is an opportunity for drama screenwriters to win
the chance to have their work produced and screened
on Channel 4. They are inviting exciting,
talented writers to submit a treatment for a six-part
drama series, an outline for a pilot episode for
that series, and a script for a sample scene from
that episode.
12 writers
will be selected to take part in a packed weekend
of industry workshops and masterclasses.
They will then be hot-housed in one of three Scottish
independent productions companies, where mentoring
producers and Channel 4 script editors will help
them develop their series idea and complete a
first draft script. After 8 weeks of paid
training, each writers will pitch to a selection
panel. Only one idea from each production
team will be selected. These 3 writers,
along with their producesr, will hotfoot it down
to Channel 4's HQ in London to pitch to 4Talent
and the Channel's Commissioning Editor for Drama,
Sophie Gardiner.
