NARRATIVE
NOW AT OXFORD UNIVERSITY
Oxford
University present a day-school entitled Fact
Versus Fiction In Contemporary Culture.
"In
today's culture is it possible to be original
any more? Everywhere you turn, traditional narrative
has been taken over by other forms. Television
has been colonised by the Drama Documentary and
Reality TV, literature by the rise of faction
and creative non-fiction, music by endless sampling
and the cult of personality. Over all this looms
the internet, where new technology creates the
myth of community, whilst reinforcing the increasing
fragmentation of our lives."
If this
is a statement you relate to as a writer then
you may wish to join this day school as it brings
together academics and practitioners to discuss
the problems and possibilities created by the
blurring of boundaries in the modern media.
