EVENTS...
LAST
CHANCE TO CATCH SCRIPT/LIGHTHOUSE DIGITAL SHORTS
The
first and second screenings sold out and they're
back by popular demand!The digital shorts made
as a result of Script's Leap Off The Page programme
are being shown again.
ArtsFest
2005 have agreed to include the films in their
September programme of events. These films have
proved a huge success with past audiences and
sold out the Lighthouse in April and the MAC in
June. This is a final local opportunity to see
these shorts.

RADIO
ONLINE SUCCESS SHOWCASED IN TRANSMISSIONS FESTIVAL
Birmingham
Repertory Theatre are presenting Transmissions
2005 nightly from 7 to 23 July. Radio plays
developed through Script's Radio Online competition
will be heard alongside the staged extracts of
new young writers from the West Midlands.
The
talent of 70 writers, from the ages of 12-25 will
be presented by professional actors and directors.

BUILDERS
HANDS BENEFIT FROM SCRIPT DEVELOPMENT
Playwright
Richard Parkes began writing after sustaining
a back injury working as a builder. His play,
Crush, was first workshopped and showcased by
Script (formerly Stagecoach!).
The
play has moved on since then and is now making
its premiere at the Newhampton Arts Centre in
Wolverhampton.

workshop covering budgeting, scheduling and cash
flow skills for the making of 60 minute documentaries.

After
attending the Monsterists conference in London
on July 1st, the Director of the Orange Tree Theatre
in London has made a step in the right direction.
They
currently have a trainee director scheme and are
adding a writer to the mix - giving someone the
opportunity to be attached to Orange Tree, with
a weekly wage of £145. The details are yet

instigate, develop and manage relationships within
the West Midlands independent Production sector

PLATINUM
SEEKING CULTURALLY DIVERSE RISK TAKERS
Platinum
are launching a funding programme for culturally
diverse artists willing to experiment, take risks
and develop new ideas.

will consider artists in dance, theatre, music,
video or spoken word whose work is innovative
and challenging. The programme will provide
ten participants with up to £2500, access
to free workshops and training events from September
2005 onwards.

venue off the Royal Mile during the Edinburgh
Fringe Festival in August.

SENSE SEEKS WRITERS
Three
writers are sought for Sixth Sense's new endeavour,
Playback.
Playback
will enable them to combine some of their major
areas of interest by uniting emerging writers,
actors and their production team.
Emerging writers are required, those
who have begun their careers and understand the
opportunities and constraints of writing for specific
productions budgets, venues and audiences.

ENOUGH FOR C4?
Channel
Four are seeking the best unpublished comedy writer,
or team of writers to receive writing commissions
from leading production companies for a range
of Channel Four comedy and entertainment shows.
Entrants
must be new to writing for television and resident
in the United Kingdom. You must submit a three
minute topical monologue and three non-topical
sketches of no more than three minutes in length
each.

BBC
RADIO FIVE LIVE URGES WRITERS TO GET INTO THEIR
SPORTS SHORTS
Five
Live in conjunction with BBC Writersroom, Roots
and BBC English Regions have launched a radio
drama writing competition.
Entrants
must submit a script for a short drama of up to
10 minutes based on their best sporting moment,
whether real, imaginary, comical or poignant.
Winning
entries will be made into radio dramas, aired
on Sport Five and possibly on BBC London.
